Sorry about the “bad word” in this one. Sometimes I have trouble expressing things.

When did God demand a sacrifice?
Did I miss what Cain and Able heard?
How can something not suffice
When no one said a single word?

Did they make up this religion shit?
The what and why and where?
If they made up how much they’d split,
Why would this god care?

Like a dad who doesn’t like ballet,
but for his son he says ok,
Did this god enter what they thought,
And work there though he liked it not?

Perhaps…
The history of religion is…
God joining us in our game of make believe…

God met Cain and Able when they burned up their wealth.
God met Cain with instruction how to care for himself.
God met him when his brother he had killed in a field.
God met him, and Cain thought that then his fate was sealed.
He told God I have sinned I’m separated from you.
The ground is cursed. I am the worst. There’s nothing we can do.
Let me die, let me cry, I deserve this hell.
He said so much, then closed his eyes, for god’s wrath soon to tell…

Not so!
…that was god’s response.
No hell, no death, no hat inscribed with dunce.

God gives him a mark,
sets him apart,
Isn’t that what holy is?

There was nothing done right,
No prayer or creed,
The sacrifice failed,
But there’s Cain and that mark of his.

Perhaps…
The history of religion…
Is God entering our game of make believe…
…and trying to win.

So why did Jesus have to die?

Perhaps…
Just perhaps…
…He really wants to win.”
